Winter Wardrobe Essentials
When it comes to fashion, many of us love winters as dressing up requires little effort. You can hide yourself under all the thick layers of clothing and not worry about the many things that require extra attention in the summer. Then of course there are some who don’t enjoy dressing up in winters at all, as the bulky thick clothing gives them little to play with in terms of fashion. Personally, I feel it’s easier to look and feel stylish if you have the following winter basics in your wardrobe.
A good leather jacket is a must have in everyone’s wardrobe irrespective of age and gender. There are many different styles in leather jackets to suit different age groups & personalities. I personally have a few in my collection. They can instantly transform any outfit to WOW and without much effort. You pull off leather jackets with anything & everything. Again, this is one item that you can always dress up or down depending on the occasion or simply your mood.
Over the knee boots/Tall Boots
These have remained a staple item in every fashionista’s wardrobe. Not only do they keep you super warm and they are chic to look at. Wear them with skinny jeans, leggings, a mini dress or a skirt.
Style Tip: Avoid anything that bunches up at the top of the boots. So, whenever you wear something that needs to be tucked in make sure it is skinny or well fitting (e.g. skinny jeans/pants, leggings, stockings etc.) There is nothing chic about things bunching up!
Blanket wrap scarfs
This is another great staple in anyone’s winter wardrobe. It’s a great fashion accessory and definitely gets the extra points for comfort wear. There are multiple ways to style it. You can either throw it over your shoulder or wrap it around your neck multiple times. Play with different lengths (bigger the better), patterns & colors. This is a sure thing to amp up any boring winter outfit into a very stylish and playful one.
Skinny Jeans look smart, polished and classy both in winter and summer. Especially in winter their streamlined silhouette allows you to layer multiple items on top. Wear them with a leather jacket or an oversized/statement overcoat, paired with a Blanket Wrap Scarf, or any kind of a sweater.
They look fantastic with most types of footwear including boots, pointy toe heels, flats or sneakers.
Not just your greatest weapon against the chills, these coats are functional and a piece of clothing you can wear on a daily basis. Choose one wisely as these tend to be statement pieces as well. There are a lot of designs and fabrics to choose from. Many people prefer solid bold colors, and the super confident ones opt for big checks and patterns. Even though Hong Kong doesn’t experience a chilly winter (not any more), you can wear coats made from light woollen fabric.
Ankle boots are very stylish and versatile, and can be worn throughout the year. They are practical, stylish and comfortable; however, they can be a bit tricky carry off. The key is to pair them with the right outfit. Because these boots come in many different styles, people tend to own a few pairs.
Berets/Beanies/Wool Bowler Hats/Bucket Hats
Beanies aren’t the only headgear that keep us warm. The selection of hats currently on the market are wide-ranging. I love using different kinds of hats during the winter season and my personal favorites are the Berets & Bowler Hats. Hats are like sunglasses.
You must try them on to see if a certain style suits the shape of your face. Though so many fashionistas are confident in carrying off just about anything. So, go ahead play with the options and see what you like best on yourself.
Knitted jumper dresses
Jumper dresses are not only elegant, they complement most silhouettes. There are so many styles to choose from and they can be styled in many ways as well. Be it short or long, fitted or lose, they are made with a variety of different knitting styles. The transition from day to night wear is easy with these, because all you need to do is change your footwear. Wear them with a pair of smart heels for the evening, and indulge in their comfort with a nice pair of flats during the day.
There is endless choice of different styles and materials when it comes to sweaters. Turtlenecks, Crewnecks, V-necks, Off-shoulder, Fuzzy, Oversized, Statement Sleeve Sweaters, Cable-knit, Cashmere, Pashmina, Wool, Cotton etc. This is your absolute basic requirement for the winter months. Your wardrobe is incomplete without them.
